TYPES OF FOOD TO BE SERVED-NUTRIENT DENSE FOOD ARE REQUIRED FOR THE GROWING CHILDREN

  • Whole grain foods with Carbohydrates, Fiber and Vitamins
  • Fruits and vegetables with vitamins, potassium and fiber
  • Low fat dairy foods with protein, calcium, potassium, magnesium and phosphorus
  • Lean meat, poultry, fish, eggs, and nuts with protein, iron, zinc, and vitamin –B.


My Plate


The concept of my plate is designed with a goal to remind people to eat healthy food. My Plate depicts five food group with well known meal time visual of plate setting.

  1. It include foods from all the food groups, mainly vegetables, fruits, whole grain, low fat dairy products, and lean protein.
  2. Half the plate should contain fruits and veggies.
  3. Half the grains on plate should be Whole grain
  4. Dairy products should be skimmed or 1% milk
  5. Protein food choices should be varied  
  6. Limit sodium intake
  7. Increase physical activities



Food Pyramid


The food pyramid gives an idea of what food stuffs should be eaten:Adequately (Carbohydrates and Protein), Liberally (fruits and vegetables), Moderately (Oil and Meat), Sparingly (Junk foods). The intake of saturated fat (butter, ghee, hydrogenated fats) and cholesterol (red meat, eggs, organ meat) should be restricted.

My Pyramid pointers for children

  1.        Make half the grains – Whole grains
  2.        Vary the veggies
  3.        Focus on fruits
  4.        Get calcium rich food
  5.        Go lean with protein
  6.        Find balance between food and fun
  7.       Know the limit of fats and sugar
