DIET DURING PREGNANCY


  1. Small regular frequent meals. Avoidance of dieting.
  2. Food rich in fibers(25gm/1000K cal) like whole grain, cereals, pulses, vegetables(300gm/day), Fruits(100gm/day) should be included in the diet to avoid constipation.
  3. Good quality protein is derived from milk, meat, poultry and eggs. However a proper combination of cereals pulses and nuts also provides adequate proteins. And Low carbohydrate  diet
  4. Minerals and vitamins requirement should be met by consuming  a  variety of  seasonal vegetables particularly  green leafy vegetables, milk and  fresh fruits.
  5. Plenty of fluids ( 8- 12 glasses [250ml/glass] of water per day)  need to be included in the diet .
  6. Limited consumption of fried /oily, salty and spicy food
  7. Excess intake of beverages containing caffeine like coffee and tea should be avoided as it may adversely affect fetal growth. About 20-200mg/day is considered as low doses.
  8. Take Vitamin Supplements as advised by your Doctor because certain Vitamin and Micro nutrient deficiency in mother during  pregnancy can lead adverse fetal outcome especially: Iron, Folic acid, Iodine, Vit D, Vit-B12 . So get timely investigated and corrected with your Doctor’s advice.
  9. Avoid being obese – mild to moderate exercise would be helpful.
